Why I Traveled From Pensacola to Photograph a Wedding in Semmes, AL
I’m Korbin Henderson, owner of KDH Weddings, and while I’m based in Pensacola, FL, I frequently travel to photograph weddings across the Gulf Coast including Mobile, AL and smaller towns like Semmes, AL.
Charles and Julia’s wedding at Crawford Baptist Church in Semmes was the perfect reminder of why I love working with couples who prioritize intimacy, emotion, and storytelling. Even though Semmes is smaller than Mobile, it has everything needed for a meaningful, well-documented day.
How the Day Began: Calm, Natural, and Joyful
I arrived at the church early, where Julia was getting ready with her mom and maid of honor. The vibe? Relaxed, happy, and full of genuine laughter.
While Hair by Carline McDonald and Makeup by Tyler did their thing, I focused on capturing all the detail shots rings, florals, invitations. Once Julia’s look was finished, I started with her getting ready portraits. I always wait until hair and makeup are complete confidence translates beautifully in photos.
What Made the Groom’s Prep Unique
Next, I headed to Charley’s room where he and his best man were cracking jokes and just enjoying the moment.
After snapping some fun candids, I helped pin boutonnières (a skill I’ve surprisingly mastered over the years). His mom joined in for a cute, staged “pinning” photo that added a sweet personal touch to his gallery.
The Dress, the Veil, and a Sentimental Moment
Back in the bridal suite, Julia slipped into her dress with the help of her mom. The real tear-jerker? Her veil. It was the same one her mother wore on her own wedding day.
That kind of family tradition always brings depth to wedding photography and capturing it felt like freezing a memory inside another memory.
What the Ceremony Looked Like Through My Lens
The ceremony was held inside Crawford Baptist Church, and while it was small and intimate, the emotions were big.
Charley walked in with his mom. Julia followed with her dad, smiling ear to ear. When Charley saw her for the first time, he looked completely stunned in the best way possible.
They stood together, said their vows, and shared their first kiss as husband and wife. I stayed close, working angles that preserved the energy without interrupting the flow.

Why the Reception Felt So Personal
Instead of a formal grand entrance, Charles and Julia chose a laid-back vibe. Guests hung out, chatted, and enjoyed a beautifully styled charcuterie board.
This low-key approach allowed everyone to be fully present. For me, it meant plenty of genuine moments to capture laughter, hugs, and relaxed portraits without pressure.
Wrapping the Day With Golden Hour Portraits
As the sun started to dip, I grabbed the couple and bridal party for golden hour photos outside. This light is gold (literally), and it gave us warm, glowing shots that wrapped the story with intention.
The portraits were effortless. Nothing forced just connection, trust, and natural chemistry between two people who’ve been together for seven years.
Why Couples in Semmes & Mobile Choose Photographers from Pensacola
Even though I’m based in Pensacola, FL, many of my couples are from Mobile and surrounding towns like Semmes, AL. Here’s why:
- They want a modern editing style and consistent gallery
- They value a personal, guided experience
- They prefer photographers who can travel and adapt
- They trust out-of-town professionals for fresh perspective
I’ve photographed weddings from Pensacola to Fairhope to Mobile, and I bring the same energy and attention to every couple, no matter the venue.
What I Loved Most About This Wedding
Charles and Julia’s wedding was intimate, emotional, and completely their own.
From sentimental family heirlooms to belly laughs and charcuterie boards, it was a day that felt personal from start to finish. I’m so grateful they trusted me to tell their story.
If you’re planning a wedding in Mobile, AL or Semmes, AL and want a wedding photographer who travels from Pensacola, I’d be honored to document your day the same way naturally, artistically, and with your story at the center.
